How to get the Perfect post-shave: Lipidol Aftershave Oil

For years I’ve been chasing the perfect shave. So far the best shave of my life was a hot towel shave that took 30 minutes. Aint nobody got time for that. Ok, once in a long while I’ll go through the process of heating towels, exfoliating, etcetera,  but most of the time it’s a grudge buy of my time, and resources.

I don’t know about you but the perfect shave is one that’s fairly quick, and looks, smells, and feels great.

Thing is, I think most people focus on the actual razor too much – unless you’re using an old rusty blade, chances are your razor is going to do the job just fine. The shaving cream you use can make a difference but unless you’re shaving with oil, they are mostly the same as well.

From my observations, I’d say the perfect shave has to do with preparation (wash face, warm the stubble with hot water), and after care.

In terms of post shave, it’s a good idea to get something that soothes your razor burn, and moisturizes your face. Most aftershaves will dry out your skin because of the alcohol content, and often as soon as the alcohol as evaporated, the scent goes with it.

Recently, I’ve come across Lipidol after shave oil (at Clicks), and after a dozen shaves so far I have yet to not look in the mirror after rubbing in some oil and think to myself “Huh, that’s pretty good stuff!”. My usual after shave shaving rash doesn’t pop up, and I don’t have the stickiness I get from most aftershave creams.

Best yet, it’s only around R75, and compared to the very few other aftershave oils out there it’s a 1/5th of the price.

Oddly enough, I’ve found that the Lipidol cleansing body oil (awful name but I guess they had to name it something) works seriously well for shaving cream. Not sure if they planned it like that, but the stuff works. I would be incredibly surprised if the company doesn’t take off in a big way in SA.

I hope you try this out and let me know what you think – as always comments are welcomed and encouraged. Enjoy!
