In history the kitchen has always come before the king, because the humble brownie has always ruled first. -Seneca
Ok, I made up the quote, but these are still some pretty damn good brownies!
This is a slightly modified recipe from SANDYWIFEY31S, you can read her recipe here, and it blew me away with it’s simplicity, ease and how flipping great it tastes! People rave because it’s vegan, but I rave because it tastes great and also just happens to be vegan.
This recipe makes everyone happy.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt (I used smoked salt, it’s wondrous)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup coconut oil (unflavoured)
- The seeds from 1/2 a vanilla pod
- zest of 1/2 an orange
Mix the dry ingredients, and then mix in the wet ingredients thoroughly.
Preheat your oven to 180°C and pour your batter into a greased baking pan. Mine is roughly 20cm by 30cm and apparently quite standard.
The trickiest part of this recipe is cooking time. The original recipe says 25 minutes but I would say closer to 40 minutes. You will know your brownies are done once the top isn’t shiny, and there’s some firmness in the center when you touch it.
Careful now!
This baby is going crumble to pieces if you move to quickly, so you’re going to have to show some restraint before cutting it up, and let it cool down for 20-30 minutes.
That’s it – if you’ve gotten this far, hopefully you now have your own crunchy and gooey chocolate orange brownies!
Make it and let me know what you think in the comments.
